Not at all. We always recommend customers to visit our workshop or an authorized TVS dealer for correct installation. For those who are not located near to any TVS / DSG Dokter dealer and would like to install replacement parts themselves or by any third parties we make an exception, but do not provide any warranty or support on these orders.
In recent years TVS Engineering carried out literally hundreds of engine overhauls and rebuilds on almost all VAG models, both TDI and T(F)SI engines. We are able to perform all engine overhaul work in-house. Please contact us for more information.
The distribution chain of a vehicle stretches throughout its lifetime caused by wear to the chain’s components. If the timing chain is stretched, it may eventually snap resulting in engine damage and repair costs which will be many times higher than when the timing chain is replaced in time. Therefore, don’t hesitate and avoid unnecessary high costs by having your distribution chain checked in time. Make an appointment so we can exactly determine the condition of your distribution chain. Based on this, you will receive an honest advice and a completely free quote for repair.
Models in which we specialize are R32, R36, VR6, V6, V8, W12 and similar engines. However, also smaller models like 1.2 and 1.4 T(F)SI engines belong to our specialism. Please contact us about the possibilities for your model.
See the engine repair page for information about timing chain replacement pricing.
In many cases DSG repairs can be prevented by checking and maintaining your DSG in time or optimizing the DSG software by TVS Engineering / DSG Doktor.
During an in-depth diagnosis TVS Engineering analyses the overall condition of the DSG transmission and drivetrain. One of our technicians analyses your vehicle during a test drive using the latest diagnostic equipment. After this you will receive an overview of the condition of your vehicle and where applicable a cause for the problem your vehicle is experiencing. Based on the diagnosis results you will receive an overview of the costs for repair and/or software optimizations needed.
An in-depth diagnosis is FREE in combination with a repair or software optimization. The costs involved for only an in-depth diagnosis to determine the state and condition of your DSG transmission and drivetrain are € 149,-.
Changing the DSG oil included new oil filter is necessary for all “wet clutch” VAG DSG models every 60.000 kilometers according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For high mileage vehicles a DSG oil change can also be of added value for the “dry clutch” DQ200 and is often combined with extended diagnostics and/or repairs at DSG Dokter – the Netherlands. Schedule a DSG oil change or contact us for more information regarding DSG maintenance for your vehicle.
This is a question we receive several times a day. With over 15 years of experience in engine and gearbox diagnostics, repairs, overhaul and maintenance the TVS / DSG-Doctor team is capable of correctly analyzing any issue and solving it the right way! However, due to the complex technology of the DSG transmission this cannot be answered remotely. We really do need the vehicle to perform an in-depth diagnosis and determine the problem. After this we offer a free advice and quotation to let us solve the (DSG) problems you experience. This can range from a software optimization to an overhaul / repair of individual parts up to the replacement of the entire DSG transmission. Make here an appointment for an in-depth diagnosis.
The DSG gearbox has various problems and irritations regarding to drivability and shifting behavior, unpleasant noises, vibrations and bumps, dashboard and error messages. An overview of these common DSG problems can be found here.
There are several very common DSG fault codes across all VAG vehicles. An overview of the related fault codes divided into generic OBDII and VAG can be found here.
For applications where even our unique software solutions and upgrade racing clutches not withstand performance from high performance applications, TVS Engineering offers DSG gearbox conversions. The basic TVS DSG conversion kits contains the following parts:
- New upgraded DSG gearbox included mechatronic and clutch
- All additional parts needed for the conversion like flywheels, driveshaft(s), wiring adapters, engine- and gearbox mounts, etc. (varies by model)
- TVS conversion software included immobilizer solutions (if necessary)
On high power applications almost all VAG DSG gearboxes will have mechanical limitations resulting in a very limited lifespan and/or gearbox failure. Even with our DSG racing clutches and unique DSG software solutions gearboxes will not withstand all power potential from true high performance engines. For these applications we recommend our DQ500 conversion kits. In addition TVS Engineering offers DQ250 conversions for DQ200 equipped vehicles. These “dry clutch” DQ200 gearboxes are known to have a lot of issues like excessive clutch wear and gearbox breakdown already at low performance. For example with chiptuning almost all 1.6 TDI, 1.4 T(F)SI and 1.8T(F)SI engines the DQ200 transmission is the limiting factor. For this reason we often limit the engine torque at about 350Nm for the reliability and lifespan of the DQ200. When you would like to achieve the full potential from these engines a TVS DQ250 conversion is necessary. Finally, it is of course possible to convert your manual vehicle to DSG. Contact us for the possibilities.
TVS Engineering offers DSG conversion for all vehicles with transversely mounted VAG DSG transmissions. For DQ250, DQ380 and DQ381 applications we offer DQ500 conversion kits. For DQ200 applications we offer DQ250 conversion kits. See the gearbox conversion page for an overview of the vehicles for which TVS Engineering offers Plug & Play gearbox conversion kits. Please contact us for the possibilities if your model is not shown here or if you want to have your manual vehicle converted to DSG.
Yes, for correct functioning of the upgraded gearbox custom TVS conversion software included immobilizer solutions for MQB vehicles is needed. Read more about custom TVS DSG software here.
We always recommend the use of TVS DSG performance hardware, so TVS can guarantee correct functioning of the hardware and assure accurate software calibrations resulting in perfectly matching hardware and software! in some cases we make an exception. Contact us for the possibilities.
The valid pricing for TVS Engineering / DSG Dokter HQ in the Netherlands is summarized at the gearbox conversion page. Contact your local dealer for the pricing in your region. TVS Engineering uses retail prices for their dealer network. However, these may differ locally due to import duties, taxations and exchange rates.
TVS Plug & Play DSG conversion kits are available and ready to install at or ship from TVS Engineering / DSG Dokter headquarter to any authorized TVS dealer. Find your local dealer here.
We do not recommend installing a TVS DSG conversion kit yourself at home. First of all decent knowledge and mechanical skills are needed. It is possible to deliver a preprogrammed mechatronic with software for a functioning conversion. However, customizing the software is only possible at TVS Engineering / DSG Dokter HQ and authorized TVS dealers.
TVS DSG racing clutches are designed to increase clutch torque capacity to the maximum without sacrificing reliability or drivability. To achieve this we carefully balanced the friction surface area, friction materials, plate designs and clutch pack shimming. A perfect balance between different aspects is the key for an excellent performing DSG racing clutch! TVS DSG racing clutch upgrades are characterized by:
- Factory drivability
- Increased torque capacity
- Increased thermal capacity
- 100% new clutch assembly
- Plug & Play solution
- Proven design for years
Our Stage III software is the strongest DSG software available on the market wherein maximum physically possible clutch pressures and extremely high stock clutch torque capacities are achieved. If your engine application produces more torque than the maximum supported engine torque of our Stage III software, you simply do need an upgraded race clutch! See the maximum supported engine torque on stock clutch for your DSG model together with TVS Stage III software here. For motorsport / racetrack applications TVS always advise to use our upgraded race clutches!
TVS Engineering offers upgraded race clutches for almost all “wet clutch” DSG transmissions: DQ250, DQ380, DQ381, DQ500 and DL501. TVS Engineering has consciously chosen not to develop an upgrade race clutch for the “dry clutch” DQ200, because this transmission is simply too weak. We recommend our DQ250 conversion for DQ200 applications running above 350Nm engine torque. TVS DQ250 DSG racing clutches are running strong and reliable for years without any major modifications after the first release back in 2009. Based on this knowledge and experience TVS further expanded their DSG race clutch program with the DQ380/DQ381, DQ500 and DL501.
Yes, it is absolutely needed to upgrade the TCU software after installing an upgraded DSG race clutch.
